Biodegradable Urns

Urns made from sand, salt, recycled paper, and other natural materials, designed to return gently to the earth or sea. A good option for water burials, tree plantings, or families who want something that doesn't last forever.

Capacity works the same as any urn: about one cubic inch per pound of the person's body weight before death, so a 180 lb adult needs roughly 180 cu in. Water urns are built to float briefly, then sink and break down; earth urns break down in soil over months. Fill the urn at the site rather than days ahead, and keep it dry and boxed until then, because these materials soften once they meet moisture.
