Keepsakes & Jewelry

Two different things live here, and the filters above narrow to either one. Keepsake urns are miniature cremation urns, small vessels made to sit on a shelf, a mantel or inside a memory box. Cremation jewelry is worn: pendants, rings and bracelets that hold a pinch of ashes against your skin. A piece of jewelry that holds ashes is jewelry, not a keepsake urn, however small it is.

The practical difference is how much each one holds. Jewelry takes a token pinch, well under a cubic inch. A keepsake urn takes a real share, usually three to twenty cubic inches, which is why families often buy two or three and divide the ashes between them while a full-size urn keeps the rest. Both are filled at home with the small funnel supplied, or the funeral home can divide the ashes for you at collection.
