Dover Brown Keepsake

Brown lacquer over brass reads closer to wood than to metal from across a room, which is the point of this finish. The body is the Dover shape, tapered with a domed lid, in a smaller 1.5-inch square footprint and 3 inches tall. The top unscrews.

The chamber holds 4 cubic inches, a keepsake share of ashes rather than the whole. That smaller footprint makes this one of the easiest pieces to place: a narrow shelf, the edge of a bookcase, or a niche where the main urn already takes most of the depth. Fill through the top and hand-tighten the lid.
