Dragonfly Raku Urn

Dragonflies rest on the crackled glaze of this Raku urn, 8 inches across and 7.5 inches tall, their wings picked out against copper and teal that came from the fire rather than from a brush. The crazing runs over the whole body and is meant to be there — it is the signature of the Raku method, not a flaw.

The interior takes an adult volume, and the wide, low shape sits well on a mantel or a shelf. It fills from the top with the lid removed. Keep it indoors: ceramic will not hold up to burial or weather, and the copper tones can dull if the urn sits in direct sunlight for years.
