July's stone is the ruby, and here it sits deep red at the center of a gold-toned steel pendant an inch wide and 1.13 inches tall. The metal is polished rather than brushed, so the red has a bright field around it instead of a matte one, and the color holds up in poor light.

Ashes go in through a small opening at the top, which then threads closed. The volume is a pinch: enough to have something of the person with you, not enough to be where the ashes are kept. Worn on the chain supplied, it hangs at about collarbone height on most adults.
