Mansfield's Cedar Urn

Cedar carries its own scent, faint but present when the base is opened, and it is the one wood in this range most people can identify with their eyes closed. The Mansfield's is a column: six inches square at the base and twelve and a half inches tall, so it draws the eye upward and takes almost no shelf depth. The grain runs vertically up each face.

Capacity is 220 cubic inches, which suits an adult up to about 220 pounds. Because it is tall and narrow, check the height against a columbarium niche before ordering, as many standard niches will not take twelve and a half inches. Filling is done from underneath through a screwed base plate. On a mantel or a narrow console table its footprint is smaller than almost any horizontal urn of the same capacity.
