Silver Heart Pendant

This is the plain heart: no motif, no stone, no lettering, just a smooth silver face an inch wide and three-quarters of an inch tall that loads from the top. If you want something that will not announce itself, this is the one to look at.

Capacity is about 1/4 cubic inch, a keepsake portion rather than a full set of ashes. Because the face is unmarked, it takes engraving better than the decorated pieces do: a name on the front, or initials and a date on the back. The rest of the ashes belong in a full-size urn.

• Silver picks up a patina with wear; leave it, or lift it with a jewelry cloth.
• Comes with a chain; fill with a small funnel and seal with jeweler's adhesive if you want it closed for good.
