Raku firing is what separates this urn from the rest of the ceramics in its range. The pot is pulled from the kiln while still glowing and cooled in combustible material, which crackles the glaze and leaves metallic shifts that no two pieces share. A turtle sits on the body. At seven and a half inches tall it is a shelf-sized ceramic, not a full-height column.
Interior capacity is 100 cubic inches, which suits a person of about 100 pounds under the usual one-cubic-inch-per-pound rule. Families also use a piece this size for a divided portion, keeping a second urn or scattering the rest. The lid lifts off the top, so filling is done from above with the bag set straight in.
